Raptors drop NJAC lacrosse game at Kean University

UNION, N.J. (April 20, 2019) – The Kean University lacrosse team raced to a 9-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 17-4, here Saturday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
 
The Cougars, 6-9 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC, held a 17-7 advantage in shots on the way to their commanding halftime lead. They finished the game out-shooting the Scarlet Raptors, 30-14.
 
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
 
Senior Morgan Graham and freshman Dana Meehan scored two goals apiece in the opening half for Kean, which raised its all-time record against Rutgers-Camden to 10-0. Sophomore Amanda Ehrhart scored her second tally of the game early in the second half, making it a 10-0 game, before the Scarlet Raptors got their first goal.
 
Rutgers-Camden notched back-to-back goals 5:42 and 6:39 into the second half. Senior Cara Racobaldo broke the scoring ice, assisted by freshman Claire Gailliout. Moments later, freshman Jazmin Torres scored, assisted by Racobaldo.
 
Racobaldo, pictured above, later added her second goal, an unassisted tally with 13:49 remaining in the contest. The Scarlet Raptors' final goal was scored by freshman Hailey Egan, assisted by sophomore Demi Albertini, with 4:30 remaining.
 
Sophomore goalie Brittany Watson made five saves for the Scarlet Raptors, running her single-season program record to 143.
 
Meehan and freshman Emily Bretschneider finished with three goals apiece for the Cougars, while Graham, Ehrhart and seniors Taylor Nyberg and Meghan Tillger added two apiece. Graham added a game-high four assists
 
Rutgers-Camden received three ground balls from Torres and two from Racobaldo, while that duo also collected four draw controls apiece. Torres led the Raptors with two caused turnovers.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action Tuesday when they host Rowan University in a 4 p.m. game.
