ASTON, Penn. (April 25, 2019) – When the Rutgers University-Camden and Neumann University men's tennis teams met in the Scarlet Raptors' season opener on March 9 in Camden, the Knights came away with a narrow 5-4 victory.
Rutgers-Camden turned the table on Neumann here Thursday as the Scarlet Raptors won a pair of doubles matches and split the six singles matches to post a 5-4 victory.
The win snaps Rutgers-Camden's five-match losing streak and lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 2-8. Neumann falls to 6-3.
Rutgers-Camden took the victory in the top two doubles spots as senior
Vatsal Patel and sophomore
Adney Cardoza posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot and freshman
Vincent Flores and sophomore
Shariq Khan earned an 8-5 win at the second flight. The Raptors dropped a close 8-6 decision at third doubles with the team of sophomore captain
Jose Vargas and freshman
Steven Zhang.
Cardoza won a 6-0, 6-2 victory at second singles, while Khan
(pictured above) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fifth spot, raising his singles record to 8-2 this season. Vargas posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at sixth singles.
Raptor sophomore
Matt Deak dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles, while Zhang lost at the third spot, 6-2, 6-4. Patel dropped a 6-1, 7-6 (8-3) match at fourth singles.
Rutgers-Camden closes its season with a 12 p.m. match at Penn State-Abington Saturday.
