MEDIA, Penn. (April 27, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team saved its best for last.
After snapping a five-match losing streak with a win over Neumann University on Thursday, the Scarlet Raptors closed their season here Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Penn State-Brandywine.
The Raptors close their first season under Head Coach
Matt Geiser with a 3-8 record. Penn State-Brandywine ends at 8-2.
Rutgers-Camden swept all three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matches to post its biggest win since sweeping Lehman College, 9-0, on March 30.
At first doubles, the combination of senior
Vatsal Patel and sophomore
Adney Cardoza notched an 8-1 victory, while freshman
Vincent Flores and sophomore
Shariq Khan won at second doubles, 8-3. The Raptors completed their doubles sweep at the third spot with an 8-2 win behind the combination of sophomores
Jose Vargas and
Matt Deak.
Cardoza added a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles and Deak won at the second flight, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman
Steven Zhang dropped a 7-6, 6-1 decision at third singles and Patel lost a marathon 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 match at fourth singles.
Khan earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth singles to close his season with a team-best 9-2 mark in singles, including 6-0 from the fifth singles spot. Vargas finished off the singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the sixth spot.
