CAMDEN, N.J. (April 6, 2019) –When the Rutgers University-Camden and Ramapo College men's tennis teams played their match here Saturday, the outcome had an impact on a pair of conferences.
In a match that counted for both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings, Ramapo swept Rutgers-Camden, 9-0.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-4, while Ramapo evens its overall record at 5-5. Rutgers-Camden is 0-1 in both the GNAC and NJAC. Ramapo, the six-time defending GNAC champion, is 1-0 in that conference and 1-1 in NJAC play.
The Roadrunners own a 6-0 all-time record against the Scarlet Raptors, with all of the matches being 9-0 sweeps.
Rutgers-Camden sophomore
Matt Deak dropped his match at first singles (6-0, 6-0) and sophomore
Adney Cardoza lost at second singles (6-0, 6-4). In the third singles spot, freshman
Steven Zhang lost 6-2, 6-2, while senior
Vatsal Patel dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at fourth singles.
Sophomore
Jose Vargas was defeated at fifth singles (6-1, 6-1) and sophomore
Shariq Khan was defeated at the sixth spot (6-1, 6-2).
The Roadrunners swept all three doubles matches, beating Cardoza and Patel in the top spot (8-4), topping Khan and freshman
Vincent Flores at second doubles (8-1) and posting an 8-3 victory over Zhang and Vargas at third doubles.
Rutgers-Camden returns to its home court Sunday at 12 p.m. for a non-conference match against the College of Staten Island.
