CAMDEN, N.J. (July 28, 2020) – The Rutgers University-Camden Athletic Department has suspended all intercollegiate sports competition for the 2020 fall semester. The decision comes in conjunction with a similar announcement made today by the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
The suspension of play will affect the Scarlet Raptors' teams for golf, women's volleyball and the men's and women's programs in the sports of soccer, tennis and cross country.
"This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one for the safety of our student-athletes and their families and fans," says
Jeff Dean, athletic director at Rutgers University–Camden. "We will continue to work with the NJAC and all of our federal, state, and local health agencies, and hope to be able to offer a limited schedule for our intercollegiate fall programs during the late winter or early spring of 2021."
Rutgers University–Camden also is exploring the possibility of resuming workouts and conditioning sessions at some point during the fall.
