NJAC revises basketball schedules

PITMAN, N.J. (Jan. 15, 2021) The New Jersey Athletic Conference basketball season will begin in February, but the NJAC schedule is changing again and doesn't resemble the slate in a normal season.

The NJAC announced today that there will be an eight-game conference regular season, beginning Feb. 5, with teams playing the same opponent at on both Friday and Saturday. The men's and women's teams will alternate sites, meaning if the Rutgers-Camden men play home on a Friday, the women will face that same opponent on the road. The teams would switch sites for their Saturday games against that same opponent.

In the past, the 10-team conference has scheduled home and away doubleheaders against each of the other nine teams in the league, playing twice during a season and leading to 18 NJAC contests. This season, two NJAC schools have opted out of competition, leaving eight teams that will split into a North and South Division. The South Division will include Rutgers-Camden, Rutgers-Newark, Stockton and The College of New Jersey. Those schools will play a round robin to account for six games, then face off against one of the teams in the North Division. In addition to its six games against the South teams, Rutgers-Camden will add a home-and-away series against Kean University.

The Scarlet Raptors' schedule, which was altered from the previous slate after both Rowan University and Ramapo College opted out, will include games against Rutgers-Newark (Feb. 5-6), TCNJ (Feb. 12-13), Stockton (Feb. 19-20) and Kean (Feb. 26-27).

A tentative NJAC Championship Tournament will take place the first week of March, with details to be announced.
