Rowan women end Raptors' season in NJAC quarterfinals

GLASSBORO, N.J. (Oct. 30, 2021) – When the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team played at Rowan University on Wednesday night, the Scarlet Raptors took an early two-goal lead before dropping a 3-2 decision in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

That contest set up a quick rematch in the quarterfinals of the NJAC playoffs here Saturday. This time, it was the Profs who notched an early goal. That turned out to be all the scoring as third-seeded Rowan eliminated sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden, 1-0, from the NJAC playoffs.

Rutgers-Camden closes its season with a 5-10-2 record, including five 1-0 defeats.

Rowan (14-4) advances to Tuesday's NJAC semifinals, where it will play Tuesday at top-ranked The College of New Jersey.

The game's lone goal scored only 2:23 into the contest after freshman midfielder Sarah Bergan played a ball over the top of the Raptor defense, where senior forward Aidan Sheehan finished off the play from close range.

Rowan had a 12-6 advantage in shots and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks, but the shots on goal were only 3-2 in favor of the Profs.

Both Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie Chloe Beasley and Rowan junior keeper Bristol Pizzuto made two saves. Pizzuto's saves came off shots from Raptor freshmen Alyson Petro and Emily Owens.
