CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 29, 2021) – The John Jay College of Criminal Justice women's basketball team scored the first nine points against Rutgers University-Camden here Monday night on the way to a 63-49 victory in a non-conference game.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 0-5, while the Bloodhounds improve to 4-3.
John Jay jumped out to a huge 18-2 lead after one quarter and led, 31-17, at halftime behind a balanced attack led by freshman guard Ayanna Edwards. Edwards scored eight points in the opening half.
The visitors from New York City held their biggest lead, 47-19, with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter before the hot hand of Raptor junior guard
Jalissa Pitts cut the deficit to 47-27 entering the final frame. Pitts scored the Raptors' last eight points of the third quarter on a pair of treys and a layup.
With a strong fourth quarter, the Scarlet Raptors managed to slice their deficit to 11 points (60-49) late in the game, but their hole proved too large to overcome.
The Bloodhounds placed nine players in the scoring column, including three in double figures. Junior forward Katie Healy scored 14 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double. She also added game-high totals of five assists and four steals. Edwards finished with 13 points and sophomore guard Brianna Platia added 10.
Ashley Zeolla contributed 10 rebounds for the Bloodhounds, who held a 47-41 advantage off the boards.
Pitts scored a game-high 23 points for the Scarlet Raptors, aided by 4-for-10 shooting from three-point range. Pitts added 12 rebounds for a double-double. Senior guard/forward
Tiazha Jackson also collected 12 rebounds, while adding nine points, and sophomore forward
Carleigh Galasso scored eight points.

John Jay shot 23-for-51 (45.1 percent) from the floor, while Rutgers-Camden was only 18-for-72 (25.0).
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it hosts The College of New Jersey in a 6 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
