GALLOWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2021) – The Stockton University women's basketball team rattled off 22 straight points in the first half to overcome an early 10-point deficit and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 80-51, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Friday night.
The Ospreys improve to 1-4 overall and in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 0-5 and 0-5.
Stockton has won four straight games in the series and five of the last six to lead the all-time series, 64-22.
Rutgers-Camden had a great start to the game, scoring 12 of the first 14 points to grab a 10-point lead only 4:10 into the game. Freshman guard
Chloe Bennett canned two treys in that stretch, while junior forward
Tiazha Jackson added a pair of field goals.
Stockton, however, closed out the first quarter with 18 straight points and scored the first four points of the second quarter, holding Rutgers-Camden scoreless over a period of 8:32. The Ospreys took the lead for good, 13-12, with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter on a jumper by freshman guard Adriyana Jennings. Rutgers-Camden didn't break that run until 2:42 into the second quarter when sophomore forward
Jalissa Pitts hit a pair of foul shots. That made the score 24-14, the closest the Raptors came the rest of the way.
Jennings led all scorers with 16 points, while adding seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Aiya Underwood netted 11 points and freshman guard Jordyn Madigan added 10 points. Sophomore guard Maddie McCracken hauled down a game-high eight rebounds while adding eight points.
Pitts scored 14 points and added seven rebounds to pace the Scarlet Raptors. Bennett finished with nine points and Jackson added eight.
Rutgers-Camden shot 17-for-55 (30.9 percent) from the floor, while Stockton shot 33-for-77 (42.9). The Ospreys held a 55-32 advantage off the boards.
The two teams conclude their home-and-home NJAC series Saturday with a 2 p.m. game in Camden.
