WAYNE, N.J. (March 2, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors waited half of a year for their scheuled volleyball season to begin.
When the Scarlet Raptors finally played their season opener, however, it took only one hour and 15 minutes to sweep William Paterson University, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
The Raptors, who like the rest of their NJAC opponents saw their usual September start moved back to March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, received 10 kills apiece from freshmen
Erica Nebrich and
Isabella Choice, while juniors
Delaney Kolb and
Devyn Cobb added nine and eight kills, respectively. Kolb also added a match-high three service aces.
Junior setter
Brinn Hassan picked up 43 assists, the highest three-set single-match total in program history. The previous high of 36 was set by Stephanie Miller against Delaware Valley College on Oct. 16, 2010.
Junior
Morgan Fox led the Raptors with 14 digs, while Nebrich added 13 and freshman
Isabella Tamburrino collected 10.
The Pioneers received 10 kills and eight digs from junior Dakota Apicella.
The Scarlet Raptors open their home season Thursday when they host defending NJAC champion Stockton University at 7 p.m.
