MONTCLAIR, N.J. (April 17, 2021) – The Montclair State University baseball team pounded out 28 hits in a doubleheader here Saturday as it swept Rutgers University-Camden, 6-5 and 14-3.
The Red Hawks improve to 14-4 overall and 6-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raptors, who had won five of their last six games entering the twinbill, fall to 6-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with a game in Galloway at Stockton University.
Montclair State 6, Rutgers-Camden 5
Montclair State won a back-and-forth contest in the bottom of the ninth inning with an unearned run, aided by an infield error and a two-out game-winning RBI single by sophomore designated hitter Miles Feaster.
After the Red Hawks scored in the first inning, the Scarlet Raptors countered with a three-spot in the top of the second. Rutgers-Camden's inning was sparked by a leadoff double from senior designated hitter

Auggie Uzdanovics added a single in the frame, which also featured a run-scoring wild pitch and RBI walks to sophomore second baseman

Montclair State regained the lead with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Rutgers-Camden sophomore first baseman
R.J. McGettigan had a two-run single in the seventh to put the Raptors back on top, 5-4. A sacrifice fly by Red Hawk junior first baseman Peter Cosentino tied the game in the eighth to set up Montclair State's winning rally in the ninth.
Senior catcher
Thomas Gosse went 2-for-4 with one run scored to lead the Scarlet Raptors' six-hit attack. Feaster went 4-for-6 for Montclair State, while senior third baseman Joe Norton also had a big game for the Red Hawks, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored from the leadoff spot.
Montclair State 14, Rutgers-Camden 3
The Red Hawks put the game away early with four runs in the first inning while building a 7-0 lead through three innings. Montclair State collected six hits and a sacrifice fly in the opening frame.
Montclair State's 15-hit attack featured a 5-for-6 game with one run and three RBIs from senior right fielder Andrew Ollwerther. Cosentino went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.
