CAMDEN, N.J. (May 10, 2021) – One day after capturing the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship in the hammer throw, Rutgers University-Camden senior
Jude Misko (Philadelphia, PA/Cherry Hill East) earned another NJAC honor.
Misko was named today as the Field Athlete of the Week for NJAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field. It marked the third time this season he has captured that honor, adding to his collection from March 29 and April 26.
Misko's latest weekly honor comes after another dominant performance in the hammer throw on Sunday, when he won the NJAC Championships with a mark of 61.16 meters, nearly 6.5 meters farther than the conference runner-up in the 16-man field. That throw marked the second time in three meets Misko has posted a hammer throw over 61 meters and was only slightly behind his program record of 61.19 meters, set at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Collegiate Invitational on April 24.
Misko has been good in his six meets this spring that his
worst hammer throw of 56.20 meters would currently rank as the 14th-best Division III throw in the country. As it is, his 61.19-meter throw ranks second in the nation and was the best throw until May 6, when Widener's Alex Kristeller recorded a throw of 63.03 meters. Misko beat Kristeller at the Philadelphia Metropolitan meet when both athletes went head-to-head in the hammer throw.
Misko, who was the 2017 NJCAA Division III national champion in the hammer throw and an All-American during his days at Rowan College Gloucester County, has been a standout since coming to Rutgers-Camden for the 2018-19 indoor track season. In his first meet with the Scarlet Raptors, he set a program weight throw record (15.80 meters), that he has since raised to 17.03 meters.
Misko captured the NJAC and ECAC championships in the hammer throw in 2019, when he also earned USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region status. During the 2019-20 indoor track season, he won the weight throw championship at both the NJAC and ECAC meets. On Sunday, he captured his second NJAC hammer throw title during a career that was interrupted for two seasons when the 2020 outdoor and 2020-21 indoor campaigns were cancelled due to the pandemic.
In addition to his NJAC honors, Misko also has been named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week twice this season, on April 26 and May 10.
Misko will compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this month, when he will participate in the hammer throw on May 29.
