CAMDEN, N.J. (May 13, 2021) – Rutgers University-Camden senior
Emily Hilt (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) continues producing standards that haven't been seen in the women's track program in years. Hilt was officially recognized for her accomplishments when the New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its NJAC 2021 Women's All-Conference Team today.
Hilt earned NJAC Second Team honors in the discus and captured NJAC Honorable Mention in both the hammer and the shot put. The all-conference team is based on the results at the NJAC Women's Track & Field Championships held Saturday at Ramapo College, when Hilt finished second of 21 athletes in the discus (a PR of 36.38 meters), third of 18 in the hammer (46.35 meters) and third of 20 in the shot put (12.25 meters).
Hilt becomes the first Rutgers-Camden woman to place in multiple events at the NJAC Championships since Robin England earned NJAC First Team (5,000 meters) and Second Team (1,500 meters) in 2011.
The last time a Scarlet Raptor woman placed in three NJAC events happened in 2006 when both Imani Hafiz and Carmen Zimmitt earned a trio of honors, including Second Team on the 4x400 relay and Honorable Mention on the 4x100 relay. Zimmitt also captured First Team in the long jump and Hafiz was Second Team in the triple jump.
Overall, Hilt becomes the eighth Scarlet Raptor female to place in three events at the NJAC Championships. Only three athletes in program history have earned four All-NJAC honors at the meet: Zimmitt in 2005 and both Tameka Jackson and Nicole Parkinson in 2002.
Hilt's haul at the 2021 NJAC Championships adds to the impressive resume she has compiled at Rutgers-Camden since she transferred to the school from Rowan College at Gloucester County (now Rowan College South Jersey). Hilt captured NJAC First Team honors in the shot put and Honorable Mention in the weight throw at the 2019-20 indoor conference championships. She went on to win the ECAC championship in the weight throw and finish as the ECAC runner-up in the shot put before earning USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Atlantic Region recognition in the shot put.
The 2020 outdoor track season and the 2020-21 indoor track season were cancelled due to the pandemic, denying Hilt the chance to add to her accomplishments.
All-NJAC release, team
Hilt holds four Rutgers-Camden program records including a pair of indoor marks in the shot put (13.01 meters) and weight throw (14.75 meters), both set on Feb. 24, 2020 at the NJAC Indoor Championships. During outdoor season this spring, she set a pair of program records on April 30 at the Osprey Twilight Meet, improving on her own program marks in the shot put (12.67 meters) and the hammer throw (47.26 meters). She won both the hammer and shot put competitions at that meet, while placing third in the discus.
In six meets this spring, she finished in the top five for the hammer and top three for the shot put on five occasions. She threw the discus at five meets, placing among the top six at all five. She won three shot put competitions and one hammer competition this spring. She will try to add to her haul when she competes at the Rowan Last Chance Meet on May 20.
A Childhood Studies major at Rutgers-Camden with minors in both Psychology and Philosophy, Hilt also has earned an impressive resume in the classroom. A Dean's List student, she captured NJAC Academic Honorable Mention for the 2019-20 scholastic year and has been a three-time member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The 2020-21 NJAC academic honors and the 2021 spring semester AD Honor Roll won't be announced until June.
Hilt captured five honors as the Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week during her 2019-20 indoor track season, when she also was named the NJAC's Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 16 and Feb. 10. She added two more Raptor of the Week honors this spring on April 19 and May 3.
All of Hilt's accomplishments helped her earn honors as Rutgers-Camden's Woman of the Year from the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. The award, given annually to a female athlete from each of the state's two- and four-year colleges, was presented on Feb. 3 in recognition of the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
During her time at RCGC, Hilt captured All-American honors and set the program's indoor track record in the shot put (13.12 meters). She also served as the President of T2K at RCGC and was a highlighted student at the 2019 graduation.
A track and field star at Kingsway Regional High School, she earned First Team All-American, All-Conference and Group 4 sectional championship honors during her time with the Dragons. She won the Rising Angel Award at Kingsway Regional and graduated in 2017.
