UNION, N.J. (Jan. 15, 2022) – The Kean University women's basketball team scored the game's first 14 points and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 69-54, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The contest was the first for the Scarlet Raptors since Dec. 14 after cancelling five games due to health and safety protocols. The Raptors fall to 2-9 overall and 1-8 in the NJAC.
Kean improves to 8-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play, a mark that includes one NJAC forfeit victory.
Kean opened the game with 14 straight points, including five by senior guard Shannon McCoy and four by sophomore guard Brittany Graff. Rutgers-Camden broke that run with 1:46 remaining in the first quarter on a jumper by junior guard
Jalissa Pitts.
The Cougars led, 36-21, at halftime against the undermanned Scarlet Raptors, who were playing with only seven players.
Ten of the Cougars' 17 players in the game produced points, led by 12 from freshman center/forward Macy Seaman. McCoy netted 11 points and a game-high six assists, while both Graff and junior center Shahd Badeer added 10 points apiece. Seaman and Badeer both grabbed seven rebounds, helping the Cougars hold a 52-39 advantage off the boards.

Rahzirah Blocker scored 11 and sophomore forward
Carleigh Galasso added eight. Sophomore guard
Jania Pitts grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, all off the defensive glass.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Stockton University in a 6 p.m. NJAC game.
