GLASSBORO, N.J. (Oct. 12, 2022) – Things quickly took a bad turn for the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team in its New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night, and it didn't get any better for the Scarlet Raptors after that.
An inadvertent handball in the box gave Rowan University a penalty kick only 1:09 into the game and senior forward Chad Yates converted the shot for the first goal of a hat trick, leading the Profs over the Scarlet Raptors, 4-0.
The win lifted Rowan to 6-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden fell to 6-7-3 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC with its second straight conference loss.
Yates scored again at 28:21, deflecting a shot off the crossbar and into the goal from the top of the box. Freshman Ryan Barnes made it a 3-0 game just before halftime, drilling a shot into the lower left corner off a header from freshman Armando Santana. Barnes' goal came with 1:33 left in the half.
Yates completed his hat trick at 80:05, with Santana picking up another assist.
Rowan outshot Rutgers-Camden, 22-5, including 13-3 in the opening half. The Profs also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Raptor sophomore goalie
Sean Boen finished with 12 saves for his second double-digit save game of the season. Rowan sophomore goalie Dylan Aportela needed only four saves to notch the shutout, marking the third straight scoreless game for Rutgers-Camden.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host Rutgers-Newark in a 1 p.m. NJAC game.
