NEW YORK, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2022) – The John Jay College of Criminal Justice women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and broke open a tie game with a 10-point run late in the second quarter as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 85-75, in a non-conference game here Saturday.
The Bloodhounds' balanced attack spoiled an outstanding game from Scarlet Raptor senior guard/forward
Jalissa Pitts, who notched a career-high 36 points to hike her career total to 701. Her previous high of 32 came against Ramapo College on Feb. 16, 2022.
The win lifts the Bloodhounds to 2-0, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 0-2.
The game was tight throughout most of the first half as the teams traded the lead twice and were tied on seven occasions. The last tie was at 32-32 before John Jay rattled off 10 straight points on its way to a 45-36 halftime lead. The Scarlet Raptors managed to close within four points twice in the third quarter at 51-47 and 56-52, but the Bloodhounds led, 68-58, entering the final quarter.
Trailing, 76-59, early in the fourth quarter, Rutgers-Camden went on an eight-point run behind the scoring of
Jalissa Pitts and senior guard/forward
Rahzirah Blocker, cutting the gap to 76-67. That was the closest the Raptors came down the stretch.
Jalissa Pitts, who shot 12-for-24 from the floor, including 1-for-5 from three-point range, and 11-for-19 from the foul line, also added team highs of seven rebounds and five assists. Blocker canned 17 points for the Raptors, while junior guard
Jania Pitts added six points. Both Blocker and
Jania Pitts contributed five rebounds.

Abigail Sampona and freshman guard
Deja Briggs notched four assists apiece, while Sampona, Blocker and
Jania Pitts all collected three steals to pace the Scarlet Raptors.
John Jay received 22 points from sophomore guard Ayanna Edwards, 18 from sophomore forward/center Ashley Zeolla, 16 points and 11 rebounds from senior guard Bobbi Green and 13 points and 11 rebounds from junor guard Kamryn Hammond.
John Jay shot 29-for-69 from the field (42.0 percent) and 26-for-39 (66.7) from the foul line. Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-58 (43.1) from the field and 19-for-32 (59.4) from the line. The Bloodhounds held a 48-36 advantage off the boards.
The Scarlet Raptors entertain Neumann University Tuesday in a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
