CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 15, 2022) – The Neumann University women's basketball team opened up a quick 17-4 lead, padded its margin to as many as 15 points in the opening half and rode the double-double of sophomore guard Lauren Klieber as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 66-51, in a non-conference game here Tuesday.
The Knights evened their record at 2-2, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-3.
Klieber produced game-high totals of 27 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots, including 18 points and seven boards in the first half as Neumann built a 33-19 lead. The Scarlet Raptors shaved their deficit to nine points (35-26) midway through the third quarter before the Knights raised their lead to as many as 19 points (54-35 and 62-43) in the final quarter.
In addition to Klieber's big night, Neumann received nine points from freshman guard Lindsay Holden and eight from freshman guard Mia Blume. Junior forward Hannah Asaka, meanwhile, grabbed seven rebounds and added six points.
Rutgers-Camden received 22 points from senior guard/forward
Jalissa Pitts. She also added seven rebounds to tie for team-high honors with senior guard/forward
Rahzirah Blocker and junior guard
Jania Pitts.
Blocker notched eight points and junior forward
Carleigh Galasso added seven points for the Scarlet Raptors.
Freshman guard
Deja Briggs notched a team-high three assists.
Neumann shot 21-for-58 (36.2 percent) from the floor and the Scarlet Raptors shot 20-for-57 (35.1), but the Knights went 18-for-20 (90.0) from the foul line while the Scarlet Raptors were 8-for-12 (66.7). While Rutgers-Camden held a 39-38 edge off the boards, the Raptors also made 16 turnovers to the Knights' 12.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it hosts Bryn Athyn College in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
