READING, Penn. (Nov. 28, 2022) – The Alvernia University women's basketball team held Rutgers University-Camden scoreless for a six-minute span in the first half as it rattled off 14 straight points on its way to a 65-33 victory in a non-conference game here Monday night.
The win was the third straight for the Golden Wolves, who improved to 4-3. Rutgers-Camden fell to 1-5.
With the Scarlet Raptors leading, 11-6, late in the first quarter, Alvernia held Rutgers-Camden scoreless for the last 3:05 of the opening frame as it finished with a 10-point run. Freshman forward Meghan Ruth and sophomore guard Nicole Etchison both scored four points in that run, while a layup by senior forward Cathryn Kramer gave the Golden Wolves a 16-11 lead heading into the second quarter.
Etchison and Ruth opened the second quarter with jumpers, giving Alvernia a 20-11 lead before Rutgers-Camden finally ended the run with 2:55 gone in the frame. A jumper by senior guard/forward
Jalissa Pitts snapped Alvernia's run, making it a 20-13 game.
By halftime, the Golden Wolves led, 35-20. Their largest lead came late in the game at 33 points (65-32).
Ruth finished with 14 points for the Golden Wolves, while junior forward Kayla Williams netted 11 and Etchison added nine. Junior guard Jordan Karmonick dominated the boards with 13 rebounds. Williams added eight as Alvernia finished with a 61-42 advantage off the glass.
The Golden Wolves shot 29-for-73 (39.7 percent) in field goals, despite being only 1-for-25 (4.0) from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden was 11-for-61 overall (18.0) and 2-for-14 (14.3) from three-point range.
