CAMDEN, NJ (Feb. 12, 2022) – New Jersey Athletic Conference-leading Kean University raced to an 11-0 lead, opened a 24-point halftime bulge, and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 68-41, in a women's basketball game here Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the Scarlet Raptors celebrated Senior Day for their co-captain,
Breanna Ettrick, a three-year Rutgers-Camden letterwinner.
The victory was the seventh straight for the Cougars and helped them clinch the regular-season title and top seed for the upcoming NJAC playoffs. Kean improves to 16-6 overall and 15-2 in the NJAC with one more game to play before the playoffs.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-16 overall and 1-16 heading into its final regular-season game Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Ramapo College. The Scarlet Raptors will play a first-round NJAC playoff game Saturday, February 19, with a site and opponent to be determined.
Kean leads the all-time series, 52-23.
Led by a pair of treys from senior guard Shannon McCoy, Kean scored the game's first 11 points before junior guard/forward
Jalissa Pitts put the Raptors on the board 3:08 into the game with a layup. The Raptors got as close as 11-4 before Kean rattled off the next 10 points on the way to a 25-6 first-quarter lead. By halftime, the Cougars led, 40-16.
The final score marked the Cougars' largest lead, at 27 points.
McCoy finished with a huge game for Kean, collecting 17 points to tie for the game high, while adding nine rebounds and game-high totals of five assists and six steals. She also added one blocked shot.
Freshman center/forward Macy Seaman notched nine points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars.
Jalissa Pitts collected her second double-double of the season and the eighth of her career, tying for game-high honors with her 17 points and 11 rebounds. The 17 points by Pitts hiked her career total over 600 points to 608.

Salina Jones also grabbed eight boards.
Kean shot 28-for-68 (41.2 percent) from the field, 6-for-11 (54.5) from the foul line and had a 52-46 advantage off the boards. Rutgers-Camden shot 17-for-68 (25.0) from the floor and 6-for-17 from the line.
