GALLOWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2022) – The Stockton University women's basketball team outscored Rutgers University-Camden, 37-19, over the middle two quarters as it went on to eliminate the Scarlet Raptors in a first-round New Jersey Athletic Conference playoff game, 67-39.
Seventh-seeded Stockton, which won all three of its games this season against 10th-seeded Rutgers-Camden, improves to 11-14. The Ospreys advance to play a 5:30 p.m. NJAC quarterfinal game Tuesday at second-seeded Rowan University.
Rutgers-Camden closes its season at 2-18.
Rutgers-Camden took an early 7-2 lead behind five points from freshman guard
Rahzirah Blocker, but Stockton scored the next eight points. The Ospreys took the lead for good on a three-pointer by senior guard Kadinah Harris-Hood, 10-7. They led, 16-11, after one quarter and held a 38-21 halftime lead after outscoring the Scarlet Raptors, 22-10 in the second quarter.
Sophomore guard Jordyn Madigan and freshman guard Madison LaRosa both scored nine first-half points for the Ospreys, while Harris-Hood added seven. Blocker had eight first-half points for Rutgers-Camden.
The Ospreys opened up a 53-30 lead after three quarters on their way to the victory.
Madigan paced the Ospreys with 15 points, while LaRosa, Harris-Hood and sophomore guard Adriyana Jennings each added nine. Freshman forward Jaiden Harris had a stellar performance off the boards for Stockton, grabbing 20 rebounds as the Ospreys held a commanding 52-30 advantage off the glass.
Blocker finished with 15 points to lead the Raptors. Junior forward
Salina Jones had eight rebounds and seven points.
Stockton shot 20-for-57 (35.1 percent) from the floor, including 9-for-25 (36.0) from three-point range. The Ospreys were 18-for-25 (72.0) from the foul line. Rutgers-Camden shot 15-for-54 (27.8) from the floor, including 1-for-7 (14.3) from three-point range. The Scarlet Raptors shot 8-for-15 (53.3) from the foul line.
