WAYNE, N.J. (Feb. 9, 2022) – The William Paterson University men's basketball team scored the first nine points of the game, weathered a Rutgers-Camden run and went on to defeat the Scarlet Raptors, 58-38, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
William Paterson improved to 11-10 overall and 8-8 in the NJAC, snapping a three-game losing streak. Rutgers-Camden fell to 1-18 overall and 1-15 in the NJAC.
Paterson leads the all-time series, 67-7 and has won its last 10 games against the Scarlet Raptors.
Rutgers-Camden was held scoreless until freshman guard
Andrew Walker scored on a layup 5:52 into the game, making it a 9-2 Paterson lead.
Trailing 20-6, the Scarlet Raptors went on a 12-2 run, cutting their deficit to 22-18 on a three-pointer by Walker with 5:46 remaining before halftime. The Pioneers, however, scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 30-20 halftime lead. Junior forward Yvens Monfleury, junior guard Jadon Cepeda and senior guard Domenic Mignone all scored six points in the first half for Paterson. Walker notched seven points for the Scarlet Raptors.
Mignone finished with 13 points and four assists, while senior guard Brian Monaghan netted 12 points and Monfleury added 10. Both teams had 33 rebounds, with senior guard Nick Rodriguez hauling down six boards to lead the Pioneers.

Anthony Orzechowski collected a game-high eight rebounds.
Paterson shot 24-for-56 (42.9 percent) from the floor, including 6-for-18 (33.3) from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden shot 17-for-47 (36.2), including 4-for-17 (23.5) from three-point range.
Rutgers-Camden plays its final home game of the season Saturday when it entertains Kean University in a 3 p.m. NJAC contest.
