CAMDEN, N.J. (March 11, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team finally had a chance to play its first match of the 2021-22 season here Friday. Unfortunately for the young Scarlet Raptors, they were missing two players and fell to Eastern University, 9-0, in a non-conference match.
The match was the first of the season for both teams.
Without two players, the Raptors were basically down 3-0 before the match even started, missing one doubles team and a pair of singles players. When Eastern won the top two doubles matches, 8-4 and 8-0, respectively, the Eagles clinched the match before singles play.
The Raptor' top doubles team included sophomore
Andrew Yuen, the only Raptor on the court with any collegiate tennis experience, and sophomore
Ken Tuppal. At second doubles was a team of sophomore
Hani Qureshi and freshman
Sean Boen, who made his collegiate athletic debut last fall as a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team.
Yuen dropped an 8-2 decision at first singles and Tuppal lost, 8-1, in the second spot. Boen and Qureshi were both defeated 8-0 at third and fourth singles, respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action with a home scrimmage against Rowan College of South Jersey on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Their next regular-season match is Thursday when they host Ursinus College at 3:30 p.m.
