RADNOR, Penn. (Sept. 23, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season here Friday as it dropped a match against Cabrini University, 4-3.
It was the opening match for both teams and featured only seven matches, as neither program fielded a team at third doubles or a player at sixth singles.
The two teams split the first and second doubles matches, with Cabrini beating the Raptors' top team of juniors
Edward McWilliams Jr. and
Hani Qureshi, 8-2. At second doubles, the Raptors' freshman duo of
Jojo Nguyen and
Christopher Abacan posted an 8-3 victory.
In the top two singles matches, McWilliams lost 3-6, 7-5, 4-8 and Nguyen was defeated 2-6, 2-6. Abacan won at third singles, 4-6, 6-2, 8-4. Qureshi dropped a close match at fourth singles, 5-7, 6-4, 8-9, and junior
Matthew Tepfer won at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Friday when they host Cairn University at 3 p.m. in their season's home opener.
