MAHWAH, N.J. (Jan. 7, 2023) – The Ramapo College men's basketball team received 22 points from freshman guard Elijah Barlow, leading four Roadrunners in double figures, as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 70-51, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
Ramapo, which improves to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC, has won its last 13 games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 56-15.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors have lost their last eight games.
The teams traded leads early, with Rutgers-Camden grabbing its lone lead of the game at 9-8 on a jumper by senior guard
Jaymes Savage and Ramapo regaining the lead for good, 10-9, on a jumper by sophomore guard Peter Gorman.
The Roadrunners led, 21-15, following a layup by Raptor freshman forward
Cameron Downs with 7:20 remaining in the opening half. Ramapo proceeded to hold the Scarlet Raptors scoreless for the next 3:56, while rattling off the next eight points to make it a 29-15 game. The streak was ended by another Downs layup, but the Roadrunners followed with the next six points. By halftime, Ramapo had a 37-19 lead after scoring 16 of the half's final 18 points.
The Roadrunners scored the first 12 points of the second half, while holding the Scarlet Raptors scoreless for 6:30.
In addition to Barlow, the Roadrunners received 11 points apiece from sophomore guard Jusrtin Bladen and sophomore forward Shane Rooney. Sophomore forward Anthony Corbo added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Rutgers-Camden received 17 points from Downs, who tied Savage for the team rebounding lead with five apiece. Savage and sophomore guard
Anthony Orzechowski both scored eight points.
Rutgers-Camden shot 21-for-48 (43.8 percent) from the floor, while Ramapo was 25-for-50 (50.0). The Roadrunners had a 29-27 edge off the boards and seven fewer turnovers (24-17).
The Scarlet Raptors return home Wednesday for a 5 p.m. NJAC game against New Jersey City University.
