Bordon, Bautista-Castelan lead Raptor women at Cairn Cup
LANGHORNE, Penn. (Oct. 11, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's cross country team received strong performances from sophomore
Isabella Bordon and freshman
Xochitl Bautista-Castelan to finish fourth of six teams, while the Scarlet Raptor men fielded their first complete team of the season here Wednesday at the Cairn Cup Men's 8K/Women's 6K Races.
The Scarlet Raptors finished fourth of six teams in the women's race with 73 points. Cairn won the event with 39 points, led by freshman Clarisse Hayden, who finished first of 33 women in a time of 26:04.417. Bordon finished ninth overall (30:54.417) and Bautista-Castelan placed 10th (31:55.824). Both runners recorded their top times of the year, a career PR for Bautista-Castelan and the top time for Bordon since a 27:45.5 posting at last season's New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.
On the men's side, the six-team race was won by Valley Forge (52 points), with Rutgers-Camden finishing sixth (125 points). Chestnut Hill's Cole Stanchina finished first in a field of 37 runners (27:17.165), with grad student
Miguel Angel Gisone placing first on the Raptors and 14th overall in a time of 32:53.338.
In addition to Bordon and Bautista-Castelan, the Raptor women saw freshman
Lindsay Lopez Trejo finish 12th (32:48.341), freshman
Tiffany Chan place 17th (34:57.246), freshman
Kaitlyn Novak finish 25th (40:43.613), sophomore
Evelyn Macias finish 26th (42:46.401) and freshman
Alicia Washington finish 33rd (1:01:59.514).
With a complete team for the first time this season, the Raptor men included senior
David Morrow, who finished second on the team and 18th overall (34:39.937), freshman
William Xavier Ramos (24th overall at 39:06.422), freshman
Patrick Dwamena (33rd overall, 53:31.468), sophomore
Maurice Obanor (36th, 59:59.596) and freshman
Dontay Benson (37th, 1:00:51.810).
The race was the first collegiate cross country competition for Washington, Xavier Ramos, Dwamena and Benson.
The Scarlet Raptors will return to action Saturday when they compete in the Inter-Regional Border Battle at the Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township. The women's 6K race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11:45 a.m.
