READING, Penn. (Nov. 27, 2023) – Graduate student guard Tamia Wessels scored a game-high 20 points and the Alvernia University women's basketball team placed 11 players in the scoring column as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 69-34, in non-conference game here Monday night.
The Scarlet Raptors dropped to 0-6, while the Golden Wolves improved to 5-1, including four straight wins, all against New Jersey Athletic Conference teams.

A'yanna Morton cut the gap to 8-4. That was the closest the Scarlet Raptors came, as the Golden Wolves established a 27-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. Wessels had 10 points, three rebounds and three steals in the opening 10 minutes for Alvernia.
By halftime, the host team held a 42-17 lead, with Wessels leading the way with 16 points.
Alvernia led, 55-28, after three quarters.
In addition to Wessels, senior guard Taliyah Malone scored 11 points for Alvernia, while senior forward Kayla Williams had 10 rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden received 10 points from senior guard

Jania Pitts both added seven. Brown added a game-high 12 rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden shot 13-for-55 (23.6 percent), including 2-for-15 (13.3) from three-point range. The Raptors also went 6-for-17 (35.3) from the foul line and were out-rebounded, 59-45. They also made 31 turnovers.
Alvernia shot 25-for-75 (31.6), including 10-for-32 (31.3) from the foul line. The Golden Wolves made 20 turnovers.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday with a New Jersey Athletic Conference home game against Stockton University at 6 p.m.
