Volleyball ends season with 3-0 sweep at Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 4, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team closed its season here Saturday as it swept Goucher College, 3-0, to finish the fall campaign with a 14-13 record.

Rutgers-Camden won by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-23.

In the opening set, junior Kaliyah Moss had three kills in four attempts for a .750 hitting percentage, while sophomore Avery Ang and freshman JoAnna Andrews notched four and three assists, apiece. Freshman Mia Owens led the way with six digs.

After winning the second set, the Scarlet Raptors fell behind late in the third set, 20-19, before rattling off three straight points. A kill by senior Dyamond Free tied the set at 20-20 and the Raptors scored the next two points on a Goucher error and a kill by senior Isabella Choice.

Following a Goucher timeout and a kill by the Gophers' Olivia DeBiasio, Choice added another kill to make it a 23-21 Raptor lead. A Rutgers-Camden service error cut the gap to 23-22, but Andrews notched a kill to make it 24-22. A Goucher kill by Amel Lightfoot made it a 24-23 set, but a Goucher attack error ended the set and the match.

Both Moss and Choice finished with 10 kills for Rutgers-Camden, while Free added six and junior Kaitlyn Parrish added five.

Andrews and Ang collected 14 and 13 assists, respectively, with Andrews finishing her rookie season with 464 assists, the 11th-highest single-season total in program history. She also led the team with three service aces against Goucher and added 11 digs to complete a double-double.

Owens finished with a team-high 20 digs, while Parrish had two blocks, one solo and one assisted.

Goucher, 3-21, received 12 kills from Kailee Turner and eight from DeBiasio. Riley Kocell collected 13 assists and Nicole Kovach had 19 digs for the Gophers.
