CAMDEN, N.J.. (Dec. 2, 2023) – The Montclair State University women's basketball team placed nine players in the scoring column, including two in double digits, as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 62-50, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-8 and 0-3.
Montclair has won its last seven games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 52-17.
Rutgers-Camden broke to its biggest leads of the night, 7-3 and 9-5, early in the opening quarter before Montclair rallied to tie the game at both 11-11 and 13-13. The Red Hawks took the lead for good right before the end of the opening quarter, 16-13, on a three-pointer by freshman guard Katie Stovall.
Leading, 17-15, the Red Hawks scored the next nine points to open up their first double-digit lead of the night. Four different players scored in that run, led by a trey from sophomore guard Shannon Hughes.
Montclair State led, 37-24, at the half and 53-37 after three quarters. The Red Hawks' biggest lead on 19 points (53-34) came shortly before the end of the third quarter.
Sophomore guard/forward Isabella Orlando paced Montclair State with 13 points, while senior guard/forward Megan Duffy added 11 and grad student forward Teresa Wolak added nine points and a game-high four assists. Hughes tied for game-high honors with four steals and Vero led the Red Hawks with eight rebounds.

Rahzirah Blocker led all players with 23 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The 23 points hiked her career total over the 800 plateau to 822.

Jania Pitts added 12 points and nine rebounds, while tying the Red Hawks' Hughes with a game-high four steals. Pitts also led the Raptors with three assists. Sophomore guard/forward
Taja Brown notched 11 points and eight rebounds, helping Rutgers-Camden hold a 43-39 edge off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden shot 15-for-51 (29.4 percent) from the floor, while Montclair went 23-for-62 (37.1).
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. NJAC game at Rowan University.
