CAMDEN, N.J. (April 10, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team concluded its brutal stretch of three matches in four days by defeating Arcadia University, 8-1, in a non-conference match here Monday.
The victory snapped a two-match losing streak for the Scarlet Raptors, which started with losses against New Jersey City University and Salisbury University on Friday and Saturday. The Raptors improved to 3-7 overall during the 2022-23 scholastic year.
Arcadia dropped to 1-6.
The Raptors swept all three doubles matches, with junior
Sarah Ahrens and senior
Laurel DiStefano winning at the top spot, 8-4. Junior
Samantha Hoban and freshman
Katie Moore also posted an 8-4 win in their second doubles match. At third doubles, freshman
Ashton Sirko and junior
Alyna Cabrera won, 8-2.
Ahrens rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, win at first singles, while Hoban posted a 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles and Moore won, 6-3, 6-2, at third singles. With the match nearing sundown, the final singles matches were pro sets, with DiStefano winning 8-1 at the fourth flight. Sirko lost her fifth singles match, 8-2, and senior
Lindsay Hernandez won at sixth singles, 8-6.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it hosts Stockton University in a 12 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
