Lloyd Pearson earned his 60th career win with the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team as the Scarlet Raptors opened their season with a 6-2 win at Penn State-Brandywine Sunday.
Pearson, starting his ninth season with the Raptor women, is now 60-49.
Rutgers-Camden won two of the three doubles matches to open the competition. Freshman
Bella Martinez and sophomore
Katie Moore dropped an 8-6 match at first doubles, but sophomores
Ashton Sirko and
Jayde Sue Silva posted an 8-0 win at second doubles. Freshmen
Alyssa Peacock and
Nicoletta Troilo earned an 8-1 win at the third doubles spot.
At first singles, Moore dropped a tough 6-4, 2-6, 6-10 decision, but Martinez posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. At fourth singles, Silva posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Peacock won by the same score at fifth singles. In the sixth spot, Troilo posted an 8-1 victory. The singles victories were the first at Rutgers-Camden for Martinez, Silva, Peacock and Troilo.
Sirko was leading at second singles, 6-2, 5-3, but the match was unfinished due to rain.
The women play a 4 p.m. match at Bryn Mawr College Friday and then host Cairn University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
