IMMACULATA, Penn. (Sept. 18, 2023) – The long and winding road trip finally ended for the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team here Monday night, and the Scarlet Raptors made sure they ended it in style.
 
Rutgers-Camden scored four second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock as it defeated Immaculata University, 5-4, in a game where the Scarlet Raptors held a 5-1 lead with nine minutes remaining.
 
The Scarlet Raptors raised their record to 4-2-1, while the Mighty Macs fell to 0-3-3.
 
Since its last home game on Sept. 2, Rutgers-Camden has played five games on the road and, if not for a lightning and rain storm that cancelled a game at Gettysburg College before it became official, the Scarlet Raptors would have had six straight road games. In their five road contests, the Scarlet Raptors went 2-2-1.
 
The Scarlet Raptors took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when senior back 
Eric Swen headed home a corner kick by junior back 
Nick Yurcho, delivering his first goal of the season inside the right post at 28:10. Less than one minute later, Immaculata found the equalizer on a low shot to the right side by graduate forward Josh Fonder. Fonder's team-leading fourth goal was assisted by freshman midfielder Michael Prall.
 
Rutgers-Camden outshot Immaculata, 9-5, in the opening half, although the Mighty Macs held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. The Scarlet Raptors also had a 2-0 lead in corner kicks. Junior goalie 
Sean Boen made two first-half saves for Rutgers-Camden, while Immaculata junior keeper Ryan Straub had one save.
 
It didn't take long for the Scarlet Raptors to open up the game in the second half. Only 3:11 into the final half, freshman forward 
Jason Angel delivered his team-leading fourth goal of the season with a high shot to the right of the net. Angel later added a pair of assists on the Raptors' last two goals, giving him a team-leading 10 points.
 
The Raptors added another goal at 61:57 when freshman forward 
Miguel Graterol tallied his second goal of the season. He was assisted by freshman midfielder 
Matt Conger, who picked up his first collegiate point. Less than two minutes later, at 63:50, Swen scored another goal on a low shot to the right side, assisted by Angel.

Joshua Pereira got into the scoring act at 75:07, drilling in his first collegiate goal on a high shot to the left side of the net. It was assisted by Angel. With Immaculata's late-game flourish, Pereira's goal ended up as the game winner.
 
Immaculata scored its second goal at 81:03 on a shot by Prall, assisted by junior forward Dylan Roberts. The Mighty Macs added another tally with 1:51 remaining on a shot by junior midfielder Collin Hassay and cut the margin to one goal with 23 seconds remaining on a tally by graduate midfielder John Bohrer.
 
Rutgers-Camden finished with a 24-17 advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.
 
Boen played the first 78:01 minutes in goal for the Scarlet Raptors, making five saves and allowing one goal. Raptor freshman 
Chris Clune made his collegiate debut, finishing up the game in goal and notching one save, while allowing three goals.
 
Straub finished with six saves for Immaculata, while allowing all five goals.
 
Rutgers-Camden finally returns home Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. non-conference game against Penn State-Abington.
