CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 5, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team opened its home season here Tuesday night with a tight 3-1 victory over Hunter College.
The Scarlet Raptors won by scores of 25-16, 27-25, 20-25 and 25-23 as they evened their record at 2-2. Hunter suffered its first loss, falling to 2-1.
The Scarlet Raptors continued their early-season trend of playing marathon matches. In their first four matches, they have played five sets on two occasions and four sets in the other two outings.
Senior
Isabella Choice paced the Scarlet Raptors with 15 kills and a lofty .522 hitting percentage, while senior
Dyamond Free had 12 kills while hitting .345. Junor
Kaliyah Moss added 11 kills for the Raptors and senior
Erica Nebrich had eight as Rutgers-Camden rolled up 50 kills and an overall .221 hitting percentage.
Nebrich paced the club with 13 digs and sophomore
Bella Craig added nine. Choice had five of the team's 11 service aces.
Freshmen
JoAnna Andrews and
Sofia Granieri were the assist leaders with 28 and 12, respectively.
Bethany Tomaneng had a match-high 38 assists for Hunter, while teammates Tionna Moss and Isabella Williams both had 11 kills.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action in a tri-match at Haverford College Saturday. They play Messiah University at 1 p.m. and host Haverford at 3 p.m.
