YORK, Penn. (Oct. 12, 2024) – The York College of Pennsylvania women's tennis team captured five of the six singles matches and earned a point by winning two of the three doubles matches as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 6-1, in non-conference action here Saturday.
The loss drops Rutgers-Camden to 4-3, while York closes its brief fall schedule with a 2-2 record.
Rutgers-Camden's lone point came at fourth singles, where junior
Bryn Kelleher posted a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win. The Scarlet Raptors also notched a win at third doubles, 6-4, with the combination of sophomore
Bella Martinez and freshman
Emma D'Amico, but lost 7-5 at first doubles (freshman
Jilliane Jaugan and junior co-captain
Katie Moore) and 6-2 at second doubles (Kelleher and junior co-captain
Ashton Sirko).
In singles, York won at the top spot, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3, over Jaugan and the second spot, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-7 over Moore. Sirko dropped a match at third singles, 6-2, 6-1, and D'Amico lost at fifth singles, 7-5, 6-0. Sophomore
Alyssa Peacock was defeated at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Monday when it hosts Lehman College at 12 p.m.
