WILKES-BARRE, Penn. (Oct. 5, 2024) – The Wilkes University women's tennis team raised its record to 2-0 as it edged past Rutgers University-Camden, 4-3, here Saturday.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 3-2.
Wilkes won both the first and third doubles matches to take the one point for doubles. Rutgers-Camden captured second doubles, 6-4, behind the play of freshman
Jilliane Jaugan and sophomore
Bella Martinez. At first doubles, the combination of senior
Jayde Sue Silva and junior co-captain
Ashton Sirko lost a 6-3 decision, while the Raptors lost, 7-5, at third doubles with the team of junior
Bryn Kelleher and freshman
Emma D'Amico.
The two teams split their six singles matches, with Silva winning at third singles (6-1, 6-1), Kelleher taking a 6-0, 6-2 decision at fifth singles and D'Amico winning at sixth singles (6-2, 6-1). Jaugan dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at first singles, Sirko lost at second singles (7-5, 6-2) and sophomore
Alyssa Peacock lost at fourth singles (6-0, 6-2).
Rutgers-Camden hosts Stockton University on Friday at 3:30 p.m.in a match that won't count toward New Jersey Athletic Conference records. The Scarlet Raptors will play a 12 p.m. match Saturday, Oct. 12, at York College of Pennsylvania.
