Rutgers-Camden sets numerous PRs at FastTrack Season Opener

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden indoor track program opened the 2023-24 season here Friday at the FastTrack Season Opener, setting 26 individual PR marks at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

There were no team scores in the massive season-opening event that featured programs from all NCAA divisions as well as numerous track clubs.
 
The Scarlet Raptor men finished first of six teams in the 4x800, posting a time of 8:16.61 behind a team of freshmen Antonio Busbee and Kristopher Ewell, junior Jacob Dinerman and freshman Josiah Saint Elien. It was the first time running the event for all four athletes, establishing their own PR.
 
Junior Xochitl Bautista-Castelan set her PR times in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, finishing 61st of 67 in her first 60-meter dash (9:56) and beating her old PR in the 200-meter dash of 32.76, finishing 64th of 76 with a time of 31.20.
 
On the men's side, junior Walter Pierce and sophomore Ben Wilson also set a pair of PR times in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Pierce placed 71st of 101 athletes at 60 meters (7.44) and 57th of 98 at 200 meters (23.90), while Wilson was 97th at 60 meters (7.94) and 92nd at 200 meters (26.30).
 
Sophomore Robert Bayard led the men's sprinters in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes, coming within a whisker of his own PR times in both events to open the season. He finished 41st at 60 meters (7:18) and 36th at 200 meters (23.30).
 
Sophomore Dyheim Watson set his PR of 13.42 meters by finishing 10th of 28 in the weight throw and also finished 31st of 36 in the shot put (9.83 meters).
 
Freshman Deontae Wilson and senior Francis Hill had strong showings in the 30-athlete field of the women's shot put. Wilson finished 11th (a PR of 9.93 meters) and Hill placed 17th (a PR of 9.68 meters). Junior Isabella Bordon finished 20th of 28 women at 800 meters, posting a time of 2:39.10.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. when it competes at Ursinus College in the Bow-Tie Invitational.
