Raptor men win 4x400 on big day at Bow-Tie Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Dec. 7, 2024) – The Rutger University-Camden men's 4x400 team won its relay as the Scarlet Raptors' indoor track programs completed a busy two-day opening weekend by competing in the Bow-Tie Invitational here Saturday at Ursinus College.
 
The Scarlet Raptors made their 2024-25 season debut on Friday in the FastTrack Season Opener on Staten Island, when the men also had a relay win in the 4x800 event.
 
In the 4x400, the Rutgers-Camden men finished first of six teams in a time of 3:35.88. The Raptor team included freshmen Kristopher Ewell and Josiah Saint Elien, junior Walter Pierce and sophomore Robert Bayard.
 
Pierce also set a PR by finishing third of six in the high jump (1.65 meters), while Saint Elien had a PR in the triple jump, placing fourth of six (11.89 meters).
 
In the women's shot put, the Raptors notched a pair of PRs as freshman Deontae Wilson placed fifth of 21 (10.26 meters) and freshman Mya Cabanas Montero finished 20th (5.68 meters). Cabanas Montero also has a PR by finishing 10th of 12 in the weight throw (6.41 meters).
 
In the men's shot put, ;sophomore Dyheim Watson finished 15th of 26 (10.45 meters) and freshman Emmanuel Richardson placed 23rd (a PR of 8.31 meters).
 
On the track, the Raptors had a pair of PR times in the 60-meter dash as freshman Ramsey Tadros placed 26th of 30 in the men's race (8.14) and freshman Amelia Santos-Cruz was 19th of 20 in the women's race (10.03). Tadros also had a PR of 25.98 while finishing 22nd of 27 in the 200-meter dash. In the women's 200-meter dash, sophomore Sydnie Marshall finished 10th of 30 (29.11) and sophomore A'Maya Stanard placed 16th (a PR of 29.94).
 
A pair of women in their first season with the indoor track program, senior Maria Lopez and junior-eligible Angelina Cellucci, also set a PR running their events for the first time. Lopez finished 23rd of 24 at 800 meters (3:16.71). Cellucci, who previously played three years of basketball, ran her first 400-meter dash, finishing ninth of nine (1:26.42).
 
Raptor sophomore Angel Chaj ran his first 3,000-meter event to establish his PR, finishing 13th of 13 in a time of 12:28.85.
 
Rutgers-Camden will return to action after the holiday break. The Scarlet Raptors will compete at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invite on January 10. The 12 p.m. meet will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
