ASTON, Penn. (April 12, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team was supposed to play at Neumann University on October 7, but it was rained out.
The makeup date on March 16 also was postponed, but finally the Scarlet Raptors and Knights were able to play here Friday. The wait was worth it for the Raptors as they posted a 5-4 victory to raise their record to 7-5.
Neumann fell to 5-3.
Rutgers-Camden won its match at first doubles as sophomore co-captains
Katie Moore and
Ashton Sirko posted an 8-5 win. At second doubles, freshmen
Alyssa Peacock and
Nicoletta Troilo won, 8-7 (7-5), while the third doubles team of junior
Jayde Sue Silva and freshman
Bella Martinez dropped an 8-2 decision.
Moore won her match at first singles (6-0, 6-1) and Silva posted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at second singles. Martinez won at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-4.
The Raptors lost matches at third singles, with Sirko falling, 6-1, 6-4, and at fourth singles, as Peacock was defeated, 6-0, 6-1. At sixth singles, Troilo was defeated, 6-3, 6-0.
The Scarlet Raptors return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday with a 10 a.m. match at Stockton University.
