UNION, N.J. (April 5, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team posted its first New Jersey Athletic Conference win of the season as it edged Kean University, 5-4, here Friday.
The win lifted Rutgers-Camden to 5-3 overall and evened the Scarlet Raptors' record at 1-1 in the NJAC. Kean fell to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Sophomore co-captains
Katie Moore and
Ashton Sirko, and freshman
Bella Martinez all won their singles and doubles matches for the Scarlet Raptors, with Moore and Sirko teaming up for an 8-0 win at first doubles and Martinez joining junior
Jayde Sue Silva for an 8-1 win at third doubles.
Moore also won at first singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Sirko captured a 6-1, 6-4 victory at third singles. Martinez won her fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-1.
At second doubles, freshmen
Alyssa Peacock and
Nicoletta Troilo dropped a tight 8-6 decision.
Silva lost at second singles, 6-3, 5-7, 4-10, while Peacock was defeated at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1. Troilo lost a tight decision at sixth singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host Notre Dame of Maryland University at 12 p.m.
