WILKES-BARRE, Penn. (April 7, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team finished off a brutal stretch of four matches in three days here Sunday as it lost 6-3 decisions to both Elizabethtown College and King's College of Pennsylvania here Sunday.
The losses dropped the Scarlet Raptors' record to 6-5, snapping a three-match winning streak which included a road win at Kean University Friday night and a home win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday.
The Scarlet Raptors return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday with a 10 a.m. match at Stockton University.
Elizabethtown 6, Rutgers-Camden 3
The Scarlet Raptors won their first doubles match, 8-2, behind sophomore co-captains
Katie Moore and
Ashton Sirko. Moore also posted a win at first singles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, and junior
Jayde Sue Silva won at second singles (6-2, 6-2).
Elizabethtown beat the Rutgers-Camden duo of freshmen
Alyssa Peacock and
Nicoletta Troilo at second doubles, 8-1, and the Raptors also lost at third doubles, 8-6, behind the team of Silva and freshman
Bella Martinez.
Sirko lost at third singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Peacock was defeated at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1. Martinez lost at fifth singles, 2-1 (retired) and Troilo was defeated at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-3.
King's College 6, Rutgers-Camden 3
In the King's match, the Raptors won at first doubles, 8-6, behind Moore and Sirko, and took an 8-7 (7-4) decision at second doubles with the team of Silva and Martinez. King's College won third doubles, defeating Peacock and Troilo, 8-3.
Silva was the lone Scarlet Raptor to win a singles match, taking a 7-5, 6-4 decision at the third spot.
Moore was defeated at first singles, 7-5, 6-4, while Sirko lost at the second flight, 6-1, 6-1. Peacock was defeated at fourth singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-3, Martinez lost at the fifth flight, 6-0, 6-0, and Troilo was defeated at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-3.
