CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 20, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team finally had the chance to complete its first match this season, and the Scarlet Raptors made the most of their opportunity.
Rutgers-Camden defeated Penn State-Brandywine, 6-1, here Friday in what was supposed to be its third match of the season, but ended up as the first official one.
Rutgers-Camden opened its schedule on Sept. 7 and nearly completed a victory over DeSales University before heavy rain forced the suspension of the match. It will be completed at a later date. The Raptors also were supposed to play Albertus Magnus College on Sept. 14, but a scheduling conflict cancelled that match.
On Friday, the Raptors earned the one point for doubles competition by sweeping all three doubles matches against short-handed Brandywine, which was playing its first match of the year.

Katie Moore won at first doubles, 7-5, while senior

Ashton Sirko posted a 6-0 win at second doubles. Junior

Emma D'Amico won by forfeit at third doubles when the Nittany Lions couldn't field a team.
Jaugan dropped a tight 6-3, 6-4 decision at first singles to Penn State-Brandywine sophomore Samma Zahran, but the Raptors swept the rest of the singles matches, including a win by forfeit at sixth singles for D'Amico. Moore won at second singles, 6-0, 6-3 and Silva, Kelleher and Sirko swept 6-0, 6-0 victories at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
The Rutgers-Camden women entertain Division II Kutztown University Saturday morning at 11 a.m. before traveling to SUNY-Delhi for a 12 p.m. match Sunday.
