DELHI, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team had to travel nearly four hours for its first road match of the season, but the Scarlet Raptors made sure the journey was worthwhile.
Rutgers-Camden raised its record to 2-1 here Sunday as it defeated SUNY-Delhi, 7-0, in a non-conference match. The Broncos fell to 2-5.
For Rutgers-Camden Head Coach
Lloyd Pearson, who picked up his 100th and 101st career victory on Friday when his men's and women's teams both beat Penn State-Brandywine, it was his 102nd career win at Rutgers-Camden. Now in his 10th season coaching the women's team, he has 69 wins with that program.
The Scarlet Raptors picked up the one point in doubles by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the top spot, freshman
Jilliane Jaugan and junior co-captain
Katie Moore captured a 6-3 victory. In the second doubles competition, the Raptors won, 6-1, behind the team of senior
Jayde Sue Silva and junior co-captain
Ashton Sirko. Junior
Bryn Kelleher and freshman
Emma D'Amico completed the doubles sweep at the third spot with a 6-0 win.
Rutgers-Camden swept the singles matches, with Jaugan winning at the top spot, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 and Moore posting a win at second singles (6-1, 6-0). In the third spot, Silva earned a 6-2, 6-0 win. Kelleher, Sirko and D'Amico all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
For D'Amico, the singles and doubles victories were the first official wins of her collegiate career, although she could officially add another on-court victory once a suspended Sept. 7 match with DeSales is completed and her singles match is finished. In her previous two completed matches, her spots earned a point by forfeit against short-handed opponents.
