NEWARK, N.J. (Oct. 1, 2025) – Just when the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team appeared to have watched a win fade into a tie here Wednesday night, the Scarlet Raptors bounced back to earn a late-game victory.
Sophomore midfielder
Dylan Pino collected his first career game-winning goal with only 5:57 remaining in the contest as Rutgers-Camden outlasted Rutgers-Newark, 2-1, in a tie New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
The victory lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0 in NJAC play, while Newark falls to 7-3-1 and 1-1.
Rutgers-Camden is 5-0-4 against its upstate conference rivals since the last Newark win, 2-0, on Sept. 16, 2017.
Pino's second goal of the season was assisted by sophomore
Nik Grello and junior
Miguel Graterol. It came less than seven minutes after Newark's Erick Cortes notched the equalizer to snap a span of 70 minutes that saw the Scarlet Raptors clinging to a 1-0 advantage. Rutgers-Camden's early tally, at 7:25, came on a goal by junior
Rohan Castillo, his second of the year. It was assisted by senior
Brandon Valeri.
Newark finished with a 20-14 advantage in shots, including a 13-6 margin in the second half when it was chasing the game most of the way. The Scarlet Raiders also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Raptor junior goalie
Chris Clune made nine saves to earn his second straight win, while Newark senior Pedro Flores had five saves.
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action on Saturday when they host the nation's 10th-ranked team, Rowan University, in a 1 p.m. game.
