WAYNE, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team found an opportune time to break out of its mini slump as it rode a pair of first-half goals to a 2-1 victory here Wednesday night in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference game against William Paterson University.
The Scarlet Raptors, who were 0-3-1 in their last four games, improved to 7-6-3 overall and 4-2-1 in NJAC play. Paterson fell to 7-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference.
Rutgers-Camden has won its last five games against William Paterson and is 22-16-9 in the all-time series.
Senior
Eric Swen, playing up top, got the Raptors started with a goal at 25:59, finishing a play that started with a corner kick by senior
Brandon Valeri. For Swen, who has anchored the defense most of the season and also has played some forward, it was his third goal of the season.
The Scarlet Raptors added a big goal by freshman midfielder
Willyam Veiga only 1:08 before halftime, assisted by senior forward
Ethan Steinbiss. It was Veiga's first collegiate goal and turned out to be his first game-winning tally when Paterson cut the margin to 2-1 in the 74th minute on a goal by senior forward Seydou Camara. Camara's fourth goal of the season was assisted by senior back Jimmy Bruno.
Rutgers-Camden held a 21-14 advantage in shots, including 13-7 in the opening half. The Scarlet Raptors also had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalie
Aleksander Nycz made four saves for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior Luca Misko had one for the Pioneers.
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC play on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Kean University.
