READING, Penn. (Oct. 4, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team took two different paths in its tri-match here Saturday, but both ways led to success as the Scarlet Raptors defeated both Alvernia University and Immaculata University, 3-2, in five-set marathons.
Rutgers-Camden improved to 6-9. Host Alvernia, which posted a 3-1 win over Immaculata in the third match of the day, finished the tri-match with a 6-7 record, while Immaculata closed with a 3-11 mark.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action on Tuesday with a New Jersey Athletic Conference match at Montclair State University, beginning at 7 p.m.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Alvernia 2
The Scarlet Raptors roared back from a two-set deficit to win their opening match, 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15 and 15-11.
In the decisive five set, with the score tied 10-10, an Alvernia attack error put the Scarlet Raptors ahead and they followed with a service ace from junior
Madison Snelgrove. After the Golden Wolves closed to within 12-11, the Raptors notched the final decisive points on consecutive kills by sophomore
Gabby Gbolahan and freshmen
Jana Jovanovic and
Ella Carmen Truitt.
For the match, Snelgrove had 13 digs and five aces, while Jovanovic collected eight assisted blocks, four kills and one assist. Gbolahan notched six kills, three aces, three blocks and three digs, Truitt had six aces, one assisted block and five digs and freshman
Asha Pensa Johnson collected 15 kills, seven blocks (two solo) and two digs.
Junior
Sofia Granieri collected 11 kills, while senior
Avery Ang had 23 assists, three kills, two aces, two assisted blocks and 10 digs. Junior
Mia Owens had a big match with 26 digs, four assists, three aces and one kill, while junior
JoAnna Andrews collected 10 assists and four digs, while senior
Sophia LaPorta added 10 digs.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Immaculata 2
In their second match of the day, the Scarlet Raptors came close to reversing the script after taking a 2-0 lead, only to see Immaculata rally back to tie the match at two sets apiece. Rutgers-Camden, however, recovered to secure the final set, winning 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-5.
Gbolahan had two kills as the Scarlet Raptors grabbed a quick 8-0 lead on the way to the fifth-set win.
For the match, Gbolahan had nine kills, one assist, one ace, two blocks and three digs. Pensa Johnson collected 15 kills and six digs, while Owens notched 25 digs, four aces and three assists.
Ang had her second double-double of the day with 28 assists and 17 digs, along with six kills and two aces, while Granieri notched nine kills, three digs and one assisted block. Andrews added a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs, along with one kill and four aces. Truitt finished with 10 kills, one assisted block and six digs and LaPorta had 10 digs, two aces and one kill.
Snelgrove collected eight digs and one assist and Jovanovic had eight kills, three blocks and two digs.
