Mia Owens collected 25 digs to become the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,000-dig milestone and the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team roared back from a two-set deficit to stun Gwynedd Mercy University, 3-2, in a non-conference match here Thursday night.
The Scarlet Raptors won the match, 21-25, 24-26, 29-27, 25-11 and 16-14.
The win was the third in four matches for Rutgers-Camden, lifting the Scarlet Raptors to 7-10 overall. Gwynedd Mercy fell to 4-8.
With her 25 digs, Owens hiked her career total to 1,014. Sitting in fifth place on the program's career list is Caitlin Marchlowitz (2013-16), with 1,050 digs.
In the decisive fifth set, the Scarlet Raptors scored their final two points on kills by sophomore middle blocker
Gabby Gbolahan.
In the opening set, Gwynedd Mercy held a 22-21 lead before scoring the final three points on a kill by sophomore middle hitter Emma Hastings, a Raptor attack error and a bad Raptor set.
In the tight second set, the Griffins broke a 24-24 deadlock on consecutive kills by Hastings and junior outside hitter Kate Etter to post the win.
The Scarlet Raptors surged from an 18-12 deficit into a 24-22 lead late in the third set before the teams continued a marathon well beyond the 25-point mark. The Scarlet Raptors finally prevailed, 29-27, scoring the final two points on a kill by Gbolahan and a Gwynedd Mercy attack error.
Rutgers-Camden used its clutch third-set victory as a springboard for success in the fourth set. The Scarlet Raptors raced to a quick 14-7 lead and rolled to a 25-11 win to knot the match at two sets apiece.
Freshman outside hitter
Asha Pensa Johnson collected 21 kills for Rutgers-Camden, while Gbolahan finished with 18 kills and a .432 hitting percentage.

JoAnna Andrews and senior setter
Avery Ang both collected a double-double. Andrews notched 23 assists and 11 digs, while also adding two service aces to reach her own personal milestone of 100 career aces. Ang finished with 18 digs and 15 assists. Freshman setter
Cassie Guim added 12 assists and senior defensive specialist
Sophia LaPorta had 11 digs.
Junior outside hitter
Sofia Granieri notched eight kills and three block assists, while freshman middle blocker
Jana Jovanovic had five block assists.
The Scarlet Raptors will compete in a tri-match on Saturday at Neumann University. Rutgers-Camden faces Pratt Institute at 12 p.m. and the host Neumann Knights at 2 p.m.
