NEWARK, N.J. (April 13, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden baseball team exploded for 14 runs in the opening game of its New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader here Sunday before being held to one run in the nightcap as the Scarlet Raptors split a pair of games against Rutgers University-Newark.
The Scarlet Raptors won the opener, 14-4, before the Scarlet Raiders took a 2-1 win in the second game.
The split leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 19-10 record overall and a 4-5 mark in the NJAC. Rutgers-Newark is 12-17 overall and also owns a 4-5 conference record.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Monday with a 3:30 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference makeup game at Rowan University.
Rutgers-Camden 14, Rutgers-Newark 4
The Scarlet Raptors ripped 11 hits and took advantage of 11 walks as they defeated the Scarlet Raiders in the opener.
Junior second baseman
Frankie Romond led the attack, going 3-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs, while freshman left fielder
Ryan Joseph went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Senior first baseman
Diego Salazar went 2-for-6 with one run and one RBI.
Trailing, 2-0, the Scarlet Raptors took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning, which included an RBI single by Salazar and a two-run double by sophomore center fielder

Ethan Carpenter, senior
Joey Rappaport and junior
Tyler Griswold combined for the win. Carpenter (4-2) worked the first six-plus innings, allowing eight hits, two walks and four earned runs. He struck out one. Rappaport relieved him with two on and no outs in the seventh inning and allowed three hits over two scoreless innings, while Griswold pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one.
Rutgers-Newark 2, Rutgers-Camden 1
The second game was a pitching duel as Rutgers-Camden was held to six hits by Newark freshman Joey Santi and senior Vince Taylor, while the combination of Raptor senior
Chase Cooper and sophomore
D.J. Juliano limited the Scarlet Raiders to four hits.
Newark broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on a walk and an RBI triple freshman Tommy Ruth.
Rutgers-Camden tied the game in the top of the after Petrick was hit by a pitch with one out. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. One out later, junior catcher
Evan Carbone, who went 2-for-3 in the game, walked and sophomore shortstop
Austin Dubler singled home Petrick.
Newark plated the winning run in the bottom of the frame on three walks and a sacrifice fly.
Cooper (4-1) took the loss despite only allowing two runs in 6.1 innings. He allowed four hits and four walks, while striking out two. Juliano hurled 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, walking one and striking out one.
Santi threw five innings of shutout ball for Newark, allowing five hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Taylor (3-0) earned the win in relief with four innings pitched, allowing one hit, one walk and one run.
