VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (Sept. 14, 2025) – In a tight game between two good teams, the outcome often hinges on one key moment.
That was the case here Sunday when the Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team edged Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, on a second-half penalty kick in a non-conference game.
A foul in the box led to a successful penalty kick at 52:12 by junior back JaMarhe Wills.
The result leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 3-2-1 record and was the Scarlet Raptors' second 1-0 loss in two days on a trip to Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan University.
The Marlins improved to 4-1-1.
The game was nearly dead even at the half, with both sides taking nine shots, both having four on goal and four saves in a 0-0 deadlock. The Marlins had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks at the half. The Marlins finally broke the tie with the deciding goal on the penalty kick.
