CHESTERTOWN, Md. (Sept. 20, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team battled their nine grueling sets in a tri-match here Saturday, but the Scarlet Raptors came up on the short end against host Washington College and Lebanon Valley College.
The Raptors opened their day battling Washington College to five sets before losing 25-21, 30-28, 20-25, 25-21, 13-15. Rutgers-Camden immediately had to face Lebanon Valley in the second match of the day and dropped a tight four-set decision, 16-25, 13-25, 25-19, 24-26.
The Scarlet Raptors, 3-6, begin their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Ramapo College.
Washington 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
The Shorewomen (8-4) survived a tense fifth set, 1-5-13, on a match-clinching kill by freshman Gianna Folke.
After winning the first set, 25-21, and dropping a marathon 30-28 decision in the second set, the Raptors saw Washington College take a 2-1 lead by winning the third set, 25-20. Rutgers-Camden captured the fourth set, 25-21, on an attack error by the Shorewomen, aided down the stretch on two clutch kills by freshman
Ella Carmen Truitt.
Freshman
Asha Pensa Johnson had a stellar match with 19 kills and a .395 hitting percentage, while sophomore
Gabby Gbolahan had 15 kills and hit .367. Sophomore
Taylor White and junior
Sofia Granieri had 10 kills apiece.
Senior
Avery Ang collected a double-double with match-high totals of 31 assists and 29 digs, while junior
Mia Owens added 26 digs. Junior
JoAnna Andrews also had a double-double, notching 24 assists and 15 digs.
Lebanon Valley 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
In another tough match, the Dutchmen (4-7) outlasted the Scarlet Raptors, 26-24, in the fourth and final set, scoring the final four points of the match on kills, including the deciding kill by junior Teaguen Reynolds.
Granieri paced the Scarlet Raptors with 11 kills, while both Ang and Andrews added another double-double. Andrews collected 16 assists and 15 digs, while Ang had 12 assists and 11 digs.
Owens led the Raptors with 18 digs, while Truitt added 13.
Freshman
Jana Jovanovic led the Scarlet Raptors with four blocks, one solo and three assisted, while both Gbolahan and Pensa Johnson had three block assists apiece.
