Scarlet Raptors complete competition at two-day Widener Schuylkill Showcase

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (Feb. 1, 2026) – After a fine showing in the throwing events on the first day of the Widener Schuylkill Showcase on Saturday, members of the Rutgers-Camden indoor track team competed in the remainder of the two-day meet Sunday at the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Freshman Jayden Deleon finished first in the 18-man field of the men's high jump (1.98 meters) and freshman Talia Thomasson was the busiest athlete on the women's team, finishing 27th of 34 at 800 meters (a PR of 2:47.39). 23rd of 24 in the 60-meter hurdles (10.71) and combining with junior Sydnie Marshall, sophomore Deleon Benjamin and freshman Haely Cookhorn to place 11th of 14 in the 4x400 relay (4:31.01).
 
Marshall also finished 30th of 42 in the 400-meter dash (1:04.93).
 
Freshman Lian Thang, meanwhile, tied for seventh out of 19 competitors in the pole vault with a PR of 3.80 meters that broke the Rutgers-Camden indoor record. The old mark of 3.65 meters was held by Ken Komatsu, who accomplished that feat twice on Jan. 22, 2022 at the Collegeville Classic and Feb. 5, 2022 at the Frank Colden Invitational. Both of those meets are held at Ursinus College.
 
The men's 4x400 team of freshman Oluwatobi Popoola, sophomore Kristopher Ewell, junior Steven Crespo and senior Walter Pierce finished 10th of 22 teams (3:28.68). Ewell, Popoola and sophomore Josiah Saint Elien finished 16th, 24th and 29th, respectively, in the 44-man field of the 400-meter dash in times of 50.96, 51.58 and Saint Elien's PR of 52.67.
 
Freshman Jamir Driggins Pierce also finished 12th of 27 in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.95), while Pierce finished 19th in the event (9.54). Freshman Jack Wessner finished 42nd of 45 in the mile (a PR of 4:55.57), while freshman Abdulbasit Shodolu joined Deleon in the high jump competition, finishing eighth (1.83 meters).
 
The Scarlet Raptors return to action on Friday at 12 p.m. when they compete in the Fastrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York.
