Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Kevin Sarlo had a history-making week for the Rutgers University-Camden golf program last week. On the day when he opened play in the NCAA Div. III Men’s Golf Championships with an even-par 72, he also was announced as the school’s Male Athlete of the Year at the annual Rutgers-Camden Athletic Awards Banquet. As if he hadn’t already justified that selection, Sarlo went on to become the first golfer in school history to make the cut after the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament. He finished with a four-round score of 72-73-79-82—306 to tie for 31st nationally. Sarlo’s performance at nationals capped an outstanding junior season in which he also earned North Eastern Athletic Conference First Team honors for the third straight year, while leading his team to another NEAC championship. In 10 rounds during the spring, Sarlo had a team-leading 75.3 average, was the overall medalist at two invitationals and finished second on two other occasions. Over the course of his junior season, fall and spring semesters, he was a five-time NEAC Golfer of the Week and became the first Rutgers-Camden golfer to ever win ECAC Division III Golfer of the Month honors, capturing the award for October. For good measure, he added ECAC Division III Co-Golfer of the Month honors in March. This week’s Raptor of the Week recognition marks the fourth time Sarlo captured the school’s weekly athlete honor this scholastic year. He also won Raptor of the Week on October 12, November 2 and April 25.
